The Value of Communication

Ok I got on the plane at 5:30am, it took off at 6am it flew for two uneventful hours and landed at 7am (don't forget the time difference). I quite happily found my luggage very quickly and then went looking for my ride. No sign of my ride. Ok maybe traffic is bad - which I have found out is pretty much always the case in Toronto. I waited... and I waited... and I waited... After two hours I dug out Judy's phone number and frantically called her. "Um, Judy? Yeah, I've been in Toronto airport for the last two hours and am a bit worried that something happend to my ride."

Judy informed me that she wasn't expecting me to land in Toronto until 10:30am.

This is when I realized that I had not communicated the change in my travel plans to her. Originally I was to leave from Sydney, NS layover in Montreal for a couple of hours and then arrive in Toronto... I changed this last week so I could go to a meeting in the Halifax area. This explained why I was sitting and fretting myself crazy for two hours. Communication is VERY important.

I did get to see a bit of the new airport in Toronto. I discovered that it even had a chapel on site and was very impressed to see that Christians and Muslims share a very holy space in the midst of such a busy and hectic place.

Four happy people arrived to escort me to St. Clement's Church in downtown Toronto. We opened the small trunk of the 1991 Honda Accord only to find a rather large air conditioner was alreay inhabiting that space and there was no way at all my 23kg suitcase was going to fit in there too. My new friends agreed that they would thus be pleased to take the suitcase on their laps as we drove to the church. They all too quickly regretted this decision. Legs fell asleep/got numb... doors were opened at stop lights so legs could be stretched... and many giggles were shared about this little escapade.

I arrived at St. Clement's, was given a delicious meal and a nice quiet place to rest before we depart for London this afternoon. As I type I am sitting in St. Clement's "Club Room" which is a very comfortable space set aside for the youth group of this parish. I have had time to close my eyes for a few minutes, read some scripture and compose this blog entry.

So far my Ask & Imagine experience has been a wild ride and it will only get better.

I hope I have an equally entertaining trip to London to share with you all before I fall into bed.

Blessings,
Elliott+
