Going on Vacation

I will be on vacation for the next two weeks. Of particular note during this vacation is I will be going all the way to Calgary to witness my friend Heather Fournier get married to David Jones. Heather and I are friends from way back she is the closest thing I have to a sister and I am really looking forward to helping her celebrate this momentous occassion in their lives.

Services while I am away will be lead by the Lay Leaders of the Parish and are scheduled for:

28 May 2006 - The Ascension of our Lord

If an emergency arises that requires a priest please contact one of the Parish Wardens who will get in touch with the Priest-on-Call.

I will return from my vacation on the 1st of June. Hope to see you then.

The high school I attended was where the rural indigenous teens were bused. Every day they had to get on a bus before 7am for a 40 minute ride to the school. Classes started at 9am but they had to come extra early because the bus driver had another route to attend to closer to the school. They also had to wait at the school as the bus drove the closer kids home and then picked them up around 4pm. This means their school day was roughly 7am to 5pm. In comparison my day was roughly 8am to 4pm. There was a part of the school that was “theirs”. No one but “the Indian kids”, as we ignorantly called them, went there before school, at lunch, or after school. And I mean NO ONE. The rest of us were either scared, anxious, or so unfamiliar with those kids that it never really occurred to us to go there. Don’t get me wrong, there was never any violence there. Oh my beloved CBC...

I think it is pretty safe to say that I am a big fan of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. Until now, on Monday the management chose to lock out their 5500 employees. Their website says that they were "forced" to lock out the members of the the Reporters' Guild, but I think if they were to be honest they "chose" to lock them out. Ever since the lockout occurred the quality of CBC programming on television and radio has fallen to zero. Their reporting has become wildly biased in favour of the management - of course since it is the managers doing the reporting I guess this is to be expected. Now, I am not sure if anyone will actually read this but... To the managers of the CBC get back to doing what you do best so that the quality programming that we have all come to expect from your corporation can continue. Day of Prepartion

Today we began to prepare the house and organize ourselves. There was lots of moving of large objects, rearranging of furniture and shopping for things we need like food and supplies. After lunch we enjoyed some time learning about Godly Play. In the words of their website : "Godly Play is based upon the recognition that children have an innate sense of the presence of God. All they lack is the appropriate language to help them identify and express it so it can be explored and strengthened. The Godly Play approach teaches classical Christian language in a way that enhances the child’s authentic experience of God so it can contribute to the creative life of the child and the world."
