I'm enjoying reading your liturgy series, Elliott. Wish I could go! I used to give workshops myself, you know, in another life.

Here's something that I liked to point out about liturgy and change: Things change even if they don't change. Cramner's texts provide a good example. They had a certain significance when they were written, but as the world changed around them, their significance changed, because their context changed. They started as venacular texts, then became something else. In order to "stay the same," they'd have change!

This phenonemon has been repeated throughout the history of the church. Jerome's bible, the Vulgate, was published as a venacular text. When people stopped speaking Latin, the Vulgate was "vulgar" no longer!

So have fun! How is the group coming along?

    Take care,
    Adele

  2. Adele, so good to see that you are following along with us. I am particularly honoured because I know what your qualifications are in the liturgy department. Thanks for your comments they are quite appropriate and wise. The group is doing very well, thanks. We get about 15 people out each week and the conversations are quite valuable. Change is difficult for some people but with education and an open heart it can be made a little easier.

Be well and I hope to see you soon.

ps. I too would love to have you come to the group - heck I would get you to teach it!
